Meet The Pro's

Meet our pro's: Murdoch McEwan - PGA Professional

  • Dream Foursome: "Hogan, Nicklaus, Tiger & Myself."
  • Best Memory: "Winning my international singles match 7 and 6."
  • Dream course played: "The Golf Club of Georgia - Creek Course"

I have loved the game of golf from the age of 15 and was very fortunate to get my handicap down to +2.  Highlights as an amateur were playing for England before turning professional in 1995.  I was still a competitive tournament player for further more years both in Europe and the U.S. before focusing on coaching in the early 2000’s.

I’m very much a feel instructor, focusing on a strong impact dynamic and how it can be repeated, all the while keeping the swing as natural as possible.  I believe many golfers can achieve great success not hitting huge amounts of balls on the range, once they have an understanding and good idea of what it is they need to feel to make these positive changes.  I take their natural ability, flexibility and possible limitations they might have to consideration with also the professional and personal life restrictions.

I keep my instruction very simple, structured and manageable, easy to take to the course where it matters.  I have  extensive experience teaching professional golfers, avid weekenders and the beginner.

I have been teaching golfers of all shapes, sizes and abilities for the last 20.. 25.. 30.. (I lose track) years and have had a number of great successes including;
  • being employed by the PGA to conduct seminars teaching Pros the mechanics of the golf swing
  • becoming a master instructor of "The Golf Machine" (the PGA's own blueprint for the golf swing) - I am one of only two to achieve the accolade in Europe
  • I have written books on the golf swing
  • recently finished a prolonged project in the US working with the Michigan State University where we published a number of research papers covering: where power in the golf swing comes from and what causes lower back pain in elite golfers and how to alleviate it.
  • This also lead to further coaching with the world long driving elite.
  • Other successes include coaching tour professional to victories at the French Open and the Scottish Open.
Over the coming months I'm keen to get to know as many of you as possible and help produce further gains using the amazing RoboGolfPro, along with my own personal knowledge of the golf swing.

  • Favourite round - Vilkes Golf Club (Lithuania) Winning the tournament, shooting a course record and passing my Playing Ability Test to turn Professional.

  • Favourite Golf Memory - My first hole in one 195 yard, 3 iron. 6th hole, Burnham Beaches Golf Club.

Having studied Applied Golf Management Studies at Birmingham University, worked as Head Teaching Professional in Lithuania and competed as an amateur in a number of events, I have a very broad and deep understanding of the game of golf.

My studies and experience have given me a very detailed knowledge of the physiology and biomechanics of the golf swing and how that can be applied to improving swing technique. My final year dissertation on "The Effects of Increasing Task Difficulty on Golf Swing Kinematics," earned a 1st at University.

My approach to coaching, first and foremost is about understanding and meeting the specific goals of each client, whether they want a quick fix or to play off scratch. I believe in structured and purposeful practice to maximise the positive impact of every lesson and to ensure the learning can continue once the lesson is over.

My studies and competitive experience have taught me that what goes on between the ears is equally important and I can help clients to better think their way around a golf course, leading to consistently lower scores.

My passion and enthusiasm for the game of golf is infectious. That is why is especially enjoy working with Juniors. Golf should always be fun, no matter your age or skill level. I specialise in delivering junior lessons that are effective, exciting and enjoyable.
