Home Advantage

The Ryder Cup is visiting France for the first time, but the European Team will be familiar with this week's venue. Le Golf National is site of the European Tour's French Open. That should only increase the home-course advantage and make it harder for the United States to win the Cup in foreign territory for the first time in a quarter-century.

Two previous winners

Team Europe boast two previous winners at Le Golf National in Tommy Fleetwood and Alex Noren. In addition, Noren has finished in the top 10 in each of the past three years. Is he the man to kick us off this year? To be fair the average winning margin at this course in the past 10 French Opens has been just 9.6 under par. However, we all know that match play golf is a different staple.

7 Top 10 finishes

Furthermore, this years team Europe have achieved 7 top 10 finishes (excluding the wins) with Molinari, McIlroy and Noren leading the way in 2016, with Rahm, Noren and Fleetwood all posting finishes in 2017, and finally Noren, Garcia & Rahm this year. What do you think makes someone like Alex Noren a strong performer at this course. His last win saw him hit 75% of fairways!

It's not a drivers course

Well, to be honest, his Iron game is usually his strength and this course definitely rewards consistent iron play. The seventh fairway is just 18 yards wide in places which leads to many players opting for Irons off the tee as opposed to their regular drivers. It also means that those rewarded by big powerful drives may need to have a rethink.

Game plan

Another who has already discussed his game plan is Mr Ryder Cup, Ian Poulter. He ranks 124th in driving distance on the PGA tour. He has already eluded to nudging irons around the course in an attempt to avoid the water.

So what do you think? Do you think "Home" advantage is anything to go by. Is your money on Team Europe or Team USA? Let us know in comments below.
